Valve amended the Steam survey for December 2025 - Linux actually hit another all-time high

I'd love to appreciate these small victories for Linux, but together with the RAM crisis and the news lately, all I can see here is the gruesome death of consumer PC hardware. It's like partying on top of a sinking ship.
This will likely force people who want to play games to be part of a closed garden like game consoles, or to pay for remote applications/machines. It really feels like we are going back to the remote terminal days, as ironic as that is.

Nothing like accelerating the decay of the future Linux and PC ecosystems like removing one of the biggest reasons to own your own hardware in full by delegating the GPU workload of gaming to "cloud" services!
People say options are always a good thing, but I have good reasons to disagree here, and more than one whole decade of examples to uphold them.

The best Linux distributions for gaming in 2026

Use whatever distro works for your hardware and expected use, brodudette, including the occult ones (as in concealed, not sorcery) and it'll be the best distro for gaming in 2026. Can you fix it, or you know it will fix itself when it breaks? It's works then, best 2026 gaming box.
One-size-fits-all has never been true in the Linux ecosystem, why would that change in 2026? Just, uh, avoid distro hopping unless you have a good reason to do that. Note: trying to find the best distro for a new machine does not count as hopping.

Rough around the edges right now, and it's hard to defend digital data molesters (jokes aside, that name needs some work for the people whose minds automatically wanders towards the one that starts with P).
Still, they had three games I was going to buy this month anyway, and fair competition is fair competition, so I put my money where my mouth is.

The useful AI warning for Steam script has been turned into a proper browser extension

I honestly prefer userscripts to "proper" browser extensions, since it's that much easier to check the actual code running on my end, but that's just preference doing the talking.
Still, if you want to the heads-up this provides, it's the tool needed for the job. Too bad you can't exactly add this to the Steam client itself, that would have made it even more useful for those who need it.

Fedora Linux project agrees to allow AI-assisted contributions with a new policy

It's a surprisingly mature take on their part, actually. Instead of rushing to the popular "AI bad" mob mentality, they are gathering data on different levels of AI contribution and models used. If they have the time, power and patience to do this, good for them, and the best part is that they can always run back the rules, with examples and data to back it up.
My personal expectations? Bad contributors will show off how bad AI currently is without/minimal human touch, but both those who don't use AI and those who are using the AI as a proper tool will do just fine. In the way they are doing this, Fedora will have the receipts to throw at bad/lazy actors' faces when this is all said and done.

I already own Vampire Survivor, so I have this extra Steam key for it now. [Already Taken]
Hopefully, someone will see this and give it a home.

I won't be updating my current game and mods for a few months because it'll take time for everything to adapt well to the new version.
But if you still want to a small taste of a 0.97a modded experience by getting the old versions right now, here are some factions that play differently from other factions:
- VIC/ Volkov Industrial Conglomerate
- Diable Avionics
- UAF/ United Aurora Federation (not on the Mod Index)
- Iron Shell, a subdivision of the Hegemony that adds taxes
Other highly-recommended mods:
- Arma Armatura and its faction add-ons from other factions, basically adding mecha robots in Starsector, mostly in frigate, cruiser, as well as fighters in robot form; don't look down on these, as many of them can solo early-game pirates, given you can control your flagship well
- Nexerelin, makes Starsector basically a (long) 4x game, as well as adding TONS of QoL and ability to start or join most factions, including extreme ones like pirates, the Luddic Path and similar modded ones
- Random Assortment of Things, does what it says in the can, and adds the abyss gate as a late game dungeon of sorts
- Speedup, speed up space travel and combat, and even has a turbo mode, highly recommended
- Planet Search, adds a search bar to the intel tab for systems and planets
This is nowhere near to my complete mod list, but these are a good starts. Just remember to also pay attention to required mods, and download the correct version of the mod.
I also suggest using a mod manager as well, TriOS and MOSS are both fine, but both have missing features on Linux.

Best game acquisition of my life, it's the game that I'll obsessively play for a few months, give it a rest so the soil can gather all the nutrients, then play it again.
A shame that, even with all the great updates, I can't play it without many of the modded factions anymore.
